A friendly, colorful step-by-step guide to set up your Ledger hardware wallet safely and confidently.
A Ledger device stores your crypto private keys offline — isolated from phishing websites and malware. Think of it as a secure vault that needs physical confirmation for every transaction. This guide walks you through the essentials: unboxing, initializing, installing Ledger Live, and best practices to keep your assets safe.
Only use the official Ledger box and packaging. Verify seals and included items: device, USB cable, recovery card, and quick start leaflet. If packaging looks tampered with, contact support and do not use the device.
Connect the device and follow on-screen prompts. Choose a secure PIN (6–8 digits recommended). Never share this PIN — the device requires it to operate locally.
The device displays 24 words (recovery phrase). Write them down exactly and in order on the supplied card. Keep this offline and in a safe place — anyone with these words controls your funds.
On your computer or phone, download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website and install it. Ledger Live lets you add accounts, manage apps, and check balances. Always download from the official source to avoid scams.
Inside Ledger Live, use the Manager to install supported blockchain apps (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). Then add accounts — the device signs transactions while Ledger Live provides a user interface.
To receive funds, share your account address from Ledger Live and always confirm the address on the device screen. Store your recovery phrase securely, consider a fireproof safe, and never enter the phrase on a computer or phone.
